Synopsis

Richard Long, born in Bristol 1945, is one of Britain's most important living artists and has exhibited widely across the globe. He first came to prominence in the late 1960s and is part of a generation of distinguished British artists who extended the possibilities of sculpture beyond traditional materials and methods. His work is rooted in his deep affinity with nature, developed during solitary walks. These take him to many places around the world, from the 'home' landscape of Britain to the Andes, Africa, and the Mongolian steppes. He has produced many artist's books, documenting walks and works made in remote locations through photography, maps and texts.
