Synopsis

A first edition copy of this fascinating study of European sea battles from 'the earliest times until the Great War', by Edward Keble Chatterton. Edward Keble Chatterton was a prolific writer who published around one hundred books, pamphlets and magazine series, mainly on maritime and naval themes. Within this work Chatterton examines how naval tactics have developed throughout time, with the work divided into three sections: 'The Galley Period', 'The Sailing-Ship Period', and 'The Age of Steam', detailing such notable battles as the battle of Salamis, The Battle of the Glorious First of June, and the Battle of the Falklands.
